I write and report on music and culture for Reasons To Be Cheerful and GRAMMY.com, and have written and reported on music, arts, and culture for The Economist, The New York Times, Mother Jones Magazine, TIME Magazine, San Francisco Weekly, Red Bulletin Magazine, and other publications.
I’ve played trumpet in Florida ska bands, Los Angeles ska/reggae/jazz bands, a London Afrobeat band, an Oakland punk-soul band, and funk-groove bands in San Francisco, and have toured the US and Europe. I played trumpet in my high school marching band and was in the Florida State University marching band. My current band is RADIO VELOSO, a modern funk-soul-groove band in San Francisco.
